On 15 September 2020, the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Croatia H.E. William Robert Kohorst paid an official visit to the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Property. He discussed with line minister Darko Horvat two most topical subjects in the relations between the United States and the Republic of Croatia, i.e. the double taxation treaty and the visa regime.

On this occasion, Ambassador Kohorst pointed out that American investors are very interested in continuing investment in the territory of Croatia, and he proposed an even more open communication and faster exchange of information necessary for entry into the Croatian market. This particularly refers to the possibility of recapitalising individual companies owned by the Republic of Croatia. He also expressed great satisfaction with the realization of the LNG terminal project in Omišalj on the island of Krk.

Minister Horvat supported this initiative and offered all necessary assistance to investors in order to enable American investors an as quick and easy entry as possible, especially in the field of construction permits and state property.

"We have been holding a very good dialogue with the US Ambassador for years now, and I think we have made a lot of progress so far in bringing our two countries closer together. During the previous term of office, when I headed the economic sector, we talked many times about the issue of double taxation, the abolition of which would mean new great opportunities for our companies on the American market," minister Horvat said, pointing out that he believed such good and concrete cooperation would continue.

The meeting took place in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere, both sides expressing their wish for continuation of good cooperation as well as their readiness to support each other.
