Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning, in cooperation with Croatian Waters and the Public Institution Maksimir, on occasion of marking the Third International Landscape Day of the Council of Europe, invites to the Symposium „Water in urban landscape“ to be held on 18 October 2019 at 12:00 hrs, at Croatian Waters, Ulica grada Vukovara 220, Zagreb.

Landscape comprises natural, rural, urban and suburban areas, including land, areas of inland waters and marine areas. Water, in addition to its existential, nutritional, economic importance, represents also an essential landscape component, it is an expression of the diversity of cultural and natural heritage, of the identity of an area, and an important factor of the quality of living in urban and rural settlements.

Enhanced risks of anthropogenic impacts due to urbanisation, economic activities, development of transport and other infrastructure on the one hand, and their absence on the other, have an impact on space and thereby also on urban landscape. In the context of current challenges faced by urban areas and arising from climate changes, environmental pollution and physical devastation of natural and cultural values, by this year’s topic efforts are made to raise the awareness of the professional and general public of the value and significance of water as a landscape component, its potential in seeking answers to contemporary challenges, as well as of the promotion of its protection and conservation in the context of the identity of space and its quality for everyday life.
