Business for Smart Cities Expocongress in Kiev

From 29 to 30 January 2019 representatives from Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning Ines Androić Brajčić, Head of Sector and Sandra Momčilović, Head of Service, attended the Smart Cities Expocongress hosted by the city of Kiev, Ukraine. Conference objective was to discuss the available evidence-based solutions and their contribution to developing sustainable housing and urban policies.

Through examples of local Ukrainian renovation projects representatives explained the need to tie in and develop methodologies for implementing Sustainable Development Goal 11 and to define the indicators as means for measuring urban development.

Representatives had the opportunity to hear UNECE (The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Housing and Land Management Committee, Sustainable Energy Division and UN-HABITAT delegates give a two-part presentation on subjects of “United Smart Cities: Implementing smart sustainable cities approaches worldwide” and “Evidence-based policies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable housing and urban development in Ukraine.” This global event gathers leaders from UNECE regions to define and try to find solutions to sustainable urban development through partnerships and project development.

Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning is working on 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDG 11 - “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” This goal will be implemented at national level through National Development Strategy 2030, and our Ministry participates in developing the objective 6: Green Croatia.
